Pizza, Pasta, Non-Halal
Tavola Hells Kitchen stands as a bastion of culinary excellence, beckoning diners to experience the timeless flavours of Italy. Designed within a setting reminiscent of a “let’s pretend we’re in a market in Rome”, this Italian restaurant has earned its reputation for crafting exceptional fresh pasta and authentic classics. From a simple yet satisfying lasagna to the pièce de résistance—a wild boar pizza—the menu is a testament to the restaurant's commitment to preserving Italian culinary traditions.

As we indulged in the pizza, the true star of the show, it became evident that every element had been carefully curated for maximum flavour. The cheese, a melt-in-your-mouth mozzarella, elevated each bite, while the Italian crushed tomatoes and fresh basil added a burst of freshness to every slice. New Yorkers are quite particular with their cheese toppings. You can imagine the repertoire of cheese available - talk about customisation!

But it wasn't just the ingredients that impressed, it was the attention to detail. From the drizzle of olive oil to the distinct flavour of Italian basil, that set the dishes apart. The owner's insistence on using family-secret olive oil only added to the mystique, underscoring the importance of quality ingredients in Italian cuisine. From pizza to spaghetti, the olive oil is drizzled all over very generously, like droplets from the Tuscan Sun.
Moving on to the frutti di mare, while it was above average, it lacked the wow factor compared to the other dishes. However, delving deeper, I realized the true essence of Italian cooking lies in the simplicity of its ingredients, whether it's the Italian sea water (believe it or not!), Adriatic clams, tomatoes, and olive oil—that come together to create culinary magic.
Having attempted dishes like spaghetti vongole and frutti di mare countless times myself, I gained a newfound appreciation for the role of fresh ingredients in Italian cuisine. Just as the Japanese cherish their local produce, Italians insist on sourcing the finest ingredients from their own lands, ensuring that each dish tells a story of its origins.
