Kek Seng is one of the oldest eateries, if not the oldest, in Penang. It was established in 1906, making it 118 years old now! It has been well-known for its ice kacang among the local people as well as visitors to Penang for generations.
Kek Seng is located along Penang Road in the heart of George Town, just across the road from the iconic Komtar building.
Kek Seng is synonymous with its famous ice kacang (ais kacang) that comes with its signature homemade durian ice cream. Kek Seng Ais Kacang, a delightful bowl of shaved ice, rose syrup, red beans, creamed corn, evaporated milk, jelly and two scoops of the signature homemade durian ice cream.
Fruit Jelly, similar to ice kacang but without the red beans and creamed corn. It comes with assorted canned fruits for a more contemporary taste.
A big banner inside the coffee shop displaying the two desserts and their prices.
In my opinion, the bottom line may be redundant because everyone who walks into Kek Seng would not want to miss its famed ice kacang.
This 118-year-old coffee shop has stood the test of time in the food haven of George Town.
A row of wooden booth seats at one side of the coffee shop. These seats are a rare sight nowadays.

Many senior citizens in Penang would still remember being brought here by their grandparents for this legendary dessert which we call 'ang tau s'ng' in local Hokkien. It was usually to celebrate a birthday or as a reward for doing well in their school examinations. So, you can imagine how 'prestigious' Kek Seng ice kacang was those days.
