Korean, Deopbap, Pork-Free
Jang Sa Jang SS15 has been steadily gaining traction, and we decided to give it a try recently. A Deopbap, for those unfamiliar, is essentially a Korean rice bowl topped with various meats and vegetables stir-fried in a savoury sauce; think of it as a hearty, flavourful one-bowl meal.
The restaurant itself was just before their busy phase when we visited around dinner, so service was efficient and quick. And despite the open kitchen, the restaurant was not wafting in a smokey ambience.

My Spicy Lamb Rice Bowl (RM29.90) was decent enough, though the lamb itself was slightly chewy.

David’s Spicy Beef Belly Rice Bowl (RM26.90) fared better; the beef was tender and well-seasoned. Both my rice bowl and David’s had a sweetish taste, so do take note of the flavour profile.

Jen’s Spicy Trio Mushroom Rice was the clear winner among our orders. The mushrooms were cooked perfectly, retaining a slight bite while being infused with a rich, savoury flavour. The sauce had a good depth and wasn’t overly sweet. It came with a portion of kimchi on the side, adding a welcome spicy kick.

Chicken Gyoza (RM8.50)

Jen’s mushroom deopbap was excellent and good value and worth returning for.
