Hotpot, Non-Halal
We got back to KL, flew back to rainy weather – and we all know a proper deluge is hotpot weather! I can’t say it’s ’cold’ but def welcome 27c to the scorching heat where we came from. I’m a veritable hotpot fan (unlike Chiefeater VK) and have this (at home or at Imperial Treasure Steamboat) at least once a month, regardless the weather.

We’ve Chiefeater William all to thank for this wonderful suggestion. He told us that Bamboo Garden Steamboat is the new kid on the block joining the competitive F&B scene in Kepong (where good food is plentiful – due to the Chinese population)
I’d be amiss as a hotpot fan not to mention that their sauce department was somewhat lacking. Having had hotpot all over the world – and maybe just IMHO – they could have spiced things up a little in this department. There’s only the option of a pairing of sweet red chilli and lime chilli sauces – there’s the option for garlic shallot oil on top as well. Hong Kongers have their ‘satay’ & peanut based sauces , sesame etc. the Chinese (Haidilao etc) have entire sauce stations either DIY or templated. Again IMHO the gold standard as far as hotpot sauces are concerned.
In fact everything, every ingredient, their soup base are all made from scratch. Pretty bad ass. I’m a purist in that I always opt for their base/original soup – their claim to fame. And pork bone broth (the other being peppery pig tummy) is a favourite benchmark of mine across Asia .. (no no none of that mala numbing stuff).
A good meal by any means, a solid 7/10. And at RM560 for 10 pax you can’t really go wrong, especially on a rainy day.
There’s a fruit stall next door. We bought fresh coconuts into the restaurant, which they allowed. They also serve home made herbal drinks.
