Hokkien Mee, Street Food, Non-Halal
Ong Lee Sah Hokkien Mee is a hidden gem that is worth the long drive to this small town on the mainland side of Penang. It is not in a hawker centre nor a coffee shop. Neither is there a signboard. Just a stall attached to a vintage motorcycle placed in the compound of a village house. This noodle stall operates from the compound of a village house. Customers dine on small round wooden tables and stools which are more than 50 years old. People who get to know this place through the word of mouth come to savour the very flavourful Hokkien Mee, Loh Mee and Jawa Mee.

The proprietor used to hawk from place to place on a motorcycle when he was young. As his age caught up with him, he decided to stay put and trade from the compound of his own house.

The types of noodle dishes and their prices are displayed clearly on a big yellow signboard.

Hokkien Mee that is rich with traditional or 'kochabi' flavour and some people like it with a little 'loh' added, just like mine in this picture.

Loh Mee with its smooth and not too thick starchy gravy, allowing us to enjoy the noodles in slurps.

Tu Ka Mee or noodles with braised pig trotters. This is certainly a dish for those who love the savoury and melt-in-your-mouth pork pieces.

Jawa Mee is served without the crispy prawn crackers here but the flour fritters and bean curd pieces are fresh and fluffy. The gravy has a nice sweet potato flavour.

Big, succulent prawns and squids are available as add-ons. They are very fresh as they are sourced from the fishing village nearby.

Look at the size and thickness of the squid, and yet it is tender, juicy and very tasty.

Personally, the noodle dishes served by this humble family-run stall taste better than some of the famous and 'starred' ones in Penang. With its generous serving, fair prices and fast service, there is little wonder many people including yours truly make repeated visits to this stall.
