Popiah, Street Food
Some supper orders are comforting, and some come with a little surprise. This delivery from Puchong Popiah at Restoran Soon Sing in Pusat Bandar Puchong managed to do both. We ordered two crispy popiah and one wasabi seaweed roll, and while both were enjoyable, the wasabi version was the one that really made itself known. Jen actually choked on it for a moment, which tells you quite a bit about the strength of that kick.
The crispy popiah was good in the straightforward way you would want a snack like this to be. The skin held together well, the filling had decent savoury depth, and there was enough texture from the turnip and crunchy bits to keep it interesting. It was not overly fancy, but it was satisfying and easy to keep reaching for.

The wasabi seaweed roll brought a very different energy. Wrapped in seaweed and cut into neat bite-sized pieces, it looked harmless enough at first glance. Once eaten, though, the wasabi came through with a proper hit. It was not just mildly sharp. It had a real punch to it, enough to catch you off guard if you were expecting something gentler. That made it the more memorable of the two items.

What helped the order overall was that both snacks still worked well as delivered food. The popiah skin had softened slightly with time, as takeaway versions often do, but the flavours still held up. The seaweed roll also survived the trip reasonably well, with the stronger filling doing enough to carry the experience.
This ended up being one of those simple delivery orders that does not cost much but still gives you something to talk about after the meal. The crispy popiah was solid, while the wasabi seaweed roll was the item that left the stronger impression.
