Chiefeater David Quah enjoyed the old school wantan mee at Anson Road Market Food Court

BBQ Pork, Street Food, Non-Halal
An unplanned stop at Times Kopitiam led me to try their chicken rice, a dish I hoped would provide a satisfying, quick lunch. Unfortunately, the experience was underwhelming. The chicken itself was underseasoned, even with the sauce generously poured over it. The rice, which should have been fragrant and flavourful, lacked the depth and richness that usually makes chicken rice a staple of comfort food. To top it off, the accompanying soup was equally lacklustre, offering little more than a lukewarm, watery base.

What saved the meal was the BBQ pork from Ah Pei, which came as a separate order. The cut of meat was just right—a balance of tender pork and just the right amount of fat, with a perfectly caramelized layer on top that gave it a sweet, smoky finish. It provided the much-needed flavour the meal was otherwise missing and was truly the standout. If I were to return to Times Kopitiam, it would be for the BBQ pork, which made up for an otherwise forgettable lunch.
