Lunch at San Ren Xing

Bak Kut Teh, Non-Halal
Dining at Zheng Jia Bak Kut Teh in Puchong Jaya turned out to be a rather unusual experience—and not in the way one might hope.
The bak kut teh broth itself was decent enough, offering a herbal base with a familiar warmth, but the meats were disappointing—lacking tenderness and flavour, they felt more like an afterthought than the main attraction.

The yam rice, often a reliable accompaniment at any BKT spot, also fell flat, with neither aroma nor texture to lift the dish.

Strangely enough, the best thing on the table was the stir-fried lettuce. Crisp and well-seasoned, it was the only dish that felt properly cared for in preparation.

When the vegetables outshine the bak kut teh at a bak kut teh place, you can’t help but wonder what went wrong in the kitchen. Not a place I’d return to for BKT—but maybe for the lettuce. Our bill for the two of us came up to RM75.40
