Chiefeater Yong Choy Peng visited the newly opened Hakshan SS2 to give their Hakka cuisine a try

Chinese, Non-Halal
Chef J continues to be one of the most buzzed-about private dining rooms in town. Located on Old Klang Road it doesn’t try to overwhelm with flashiness, but the food more than does the talking.

Despite it being a Tuesday, there was a crowd that was building up at 6 pm.

Prawns

Pan fried tofu

Brussel Sprouts

We had a full-on feast recently and the highlight was the dramatic “upside down chicken” — brought to the table still hanging from its hook, the skin crisp and lacquered, the meat juicy all the way through.

Braised Pork with Yam

The Grilled Ribs were no slouch either — smoky, peppery, and wonderfully moist.

The pumpkin tofu prawns were unexpectedly comforting, a sweet and savoury dish with silky tofu, plump prawns, and a velvety pumpkin sauce that clung to everything in the best possible way.
Salted Egg Bitter Gourd

The only miss were the noodles, which felt like filler in an otherwise exceptional meal.

Complimentary desserts

For RM1,375 including two bottles of Chinese wine, it was a meal that felt indulgent but fairly priced, especially for 8 pax. If you get an invite to dine here, say yes.
Take note, reserve a room before you dine here. The rooms are air-conditioned, the general dining area is not. You will thank me for this.
