Indonesia, Pork-Free
There was something truly satisfying about this Indonesian lunch spread at Wartek Ara Damansara. The restaurant feels like it was built for comforting communal feasts.

I ordered their dendeng berlado. That's a classic West Sumatran dried beef dish that os sliced thin and fried to a crisp, then doused in a vibrant red sambal. Fiery, yes—but with a depth of umami that made the heat feel worth chasing. It offered crackle and chew in the same bite, which is exactly what good dendeng should do.

Then came the paru goreng, deep-fried beef lung. This is a dish that polarises some, but here it was executed with care. The texture was bold, slightly spongy but not rubbery, and the outer crisp was substantial enough to hold against the rich sambal hijau it was served with. The sambal hijau, in contrast to the dendeng’s red, was more mellow and grassy, balancing the meal with its own brand of earthiness.

The centrepiece, a neatly plated nasi uduk, had such an alluring aroma it nearly upstaged the mains. The rice, infused with coconut milk and lemongrass, carried its own flavour weight—creamy, subtly spiced, and utterly moreish even without accompaniment. Truth be told, I could eat this dish on its own.

While the plates were beautifully arranged, it was the flavours that spoke loudest. This is a place worth coming to.
