Chiefeater VK visited Hakka Kopitiam, discovering a menu that offers a much broader range of dishes than their name suggests

Hotpot, Non-Halal
Tucked away in Setapak, I stumbled upon a humble yet heartwarming gem, DBL Together Steamboat (一起打邊爐). What makes this place special isn’t just the food, but also the story behind it.
I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely founders: Madam Lim, a warm-hearted lady from Thailand; Miss Lim, her daughter of Malaysian-Thai heritage; and her husband, who hails from China. Together, they built DBL, which stands for Da Bin Lou, a symbol of bringing people and cultures together over food.

The steamboat here is nothing short of comforting. Their soup bases are slow-cooked with fresh ingredients, never relying on artificial pastes. The bone broth is rich and nourishing, while the Tom Yum soup bursts with authentic Thai tang and spice. Every sip felt wholesome, every bite deeply satisfying. A true taste of home.

What delighted me most is that despite the quality, the meals are reasonably priced, making it a place where anyone can indulge without worry. The restaurant is adorned with Thai posters, adding a touch of charm and curiosity that reflects the founders’ heritage.
It’s rare to find such a blend of Malaysia, Thailand, and China coming together in one kitchen, and here, it’s done with so much heart.

If you’re searching for a comforting steamboat spot that fills your belly and warms your soul without burning a hole in your pocket, I highly recommend DBL Together Steamboat.
