Porridge, Street Food
Breakfast saw me making my way to Wisma Merdeka to locate the famous Uncle Lim Hong Kong Porridge. Regulars will remember that they used to operate at Pak Kar Lok, but in 2024, they moved upstairs to this new, brighter outlet. Arriving there at 9 am, I noticed that almost all tables were already occupied.

I ordered their signature Mixed Pork Porridge (RM11). The texture of the porridge itself is excellent—velvety, smooth, and tasty, hitting that classic Cantonese consistency where the rice grain has completely broken down. However, when it comes to the ingredients, I have to be honest: the mixed pork parts here have lost out to the new outlet that is currently at Pak Kar Lok. The innards there just have a better bite and preparation now.

The condiments that complement the porridge

I also tried the Dry Meehoon. It was alright, but it lacked that “kick.” It really defied the addition of some lard to make it tastier and give it that necessary aroma.

On the upside, I did like the Kopi—thick, robust, and a solid caffeine fix to end the meal.

Mixed Pork Porridge – RM11.00
Meehoon (Dry) – RM9.00
Kopi – RM3.50
Score: 7.5 / 10
M – Meal Value**
RM11 for a bowl of smooth, well-made porridge in a comfortable mall setting is decent value.
**Score: 8/10**
V – Venue & Vibes
The new spot is cleaner and more comfortable than the old food court setting. It feels established (Est 1995) but fresh.
**Score: 7.5/10**
X – X-Factor
The velvety texture of the porridge base is the winner here. It is comfort food done right, even if the toppings have some competition downstairs.
Score: 7/10
