Chiefeater VK revisited Magpie by Burgertory because it was a hot day but was thankful for the choice he made

A group lunch for seven at Sekmechoy Restaurant in Salak Selatan offered a unique and highly personal dining experience. This established restaurant is well-regarded for its traditional home-cooked flavors and the distinctive hospitality provided by the proprietor, Georgie.
The meal featured a memorable presentation of Baked Chicken, where diners are encouraged to tear the meat by hand to fully engage with the dish. Georgie’s insistence that the chicken be finished before other dishes are served adds a layer of theatrical storytelling to the meal, ensuring the chicken had an additional layer of enjoyment.

The Egg Drop in Ginger Wine was also good. A savoury dish featuring a “sweet kick” from the wine that balances beautifully with the eggs.

Other dishes.

While the overall meal was excellent, the tofu was noted as being less impressive than the more vibrant main dishes. Still that was a minor blip in an otherwise excellent meal.
Baked Salted Chicken (Whole): RM48.00
Egg Drop in Ginger Wine: RM16.00
Minced Meat Tofu: RM20.00
Stir Fried Yau Mak: RM20.00
Mui Choy Kau Yuk: RM52.00
Total for 7 Pax with drinks and rice: RM233.70
Average Spend: RM33 per pax
Score: 7.8/10
M – Meal Value
For a specialty meal featuring a whole salt-baked chicken and traditional ginger wine dishes, an average spend of under RM50 per person is excellent value. While the tofu didn’t quite land, the technical skill in the chicken and wine broth makes the bill feel well-justified.
Score: 8.0/10
V – Venue & Vibes
Located in the historic Salak Selatan area, the restaurant provides a straightforward and nostalgic tai chow atmosphere. The vibe is significantly enhanced by Georgie’s personal touch and interactive service style, turning a standard lunch into a memorable event.
Score: 8.0/10
X – X-Factor
The X-factor is the **engaging storytelling and service philosophy**. The ritual of hand-tearing the chicken and the structured flow of the meal dictated by the owner create a dining experience that is both intimate and distinctively different from other traditional Chinese eateries.
Score: 8.0/10
