Tawau locals’ hidden gem for Sang Nyuk Mee: Kedai Kopi Foo Lee.

A friend from Tawau brought me to a place that isn’t an old establishment but has the foundation of traditional flavors. This Kedai Kopi Foo Lee is actually a venture by the second generation, but it comes with a story.
I heard the owner’s father sold Sang Nyuk Mee on the old streets for many years. After the son took over, he didn’t just replicate it; he created his own improved version. As it turns out, it suits modern palates better and has gradually made a name for itself as a local recommendation.

What’s even rarer is that the young owner and his wife personally prepare the ingredients every day. This kind of persistence is truly hard to find nowadays.
What surprised me most was the Sang Nyuk Mee here—it’s definitely not the ordinary version. It’s not just pork slices; they give you a deluxe mixed pork version including pork slices, kidney, small intestine, stomach, tendon, and meat balls.

A bowl of noodles served with such generous portions shows great sincerity; you can taste the care put into the fresh preparation.

I ordered the yellow noodle version. Mixed with a fragrant and thick dark soy sauce, the flavor is deep and layered. That simple yet addictive satisfaction is very “Tawau” and very down-to-earth.

Places like this don’t have the halo of a long-standing brand, but they rely on the persistence of the second generation to recreate the taste.
Sometimes, great food isn’t about a long history, but about someone willing to do it seriously every day.
Standard Sang Nyuk Mee: RM10.00
