Chicken Rice, Street Food
I ordered half a chicken, bean sprouts and rice from Lian Kee Bean Sprouts Chicken Rice USJ 14, uncovering a clear disparity between the tough bird and the stellar crunch of the sprouts.
When the containers were unpacked, the narrative split cleanly down the middle. The primary disappoint lay in the centerpiece: the half-portion of kampung chicken. While a certain firm elasticity is to be expected from free-range birds, this execution crossed the line into being noticeably tough (for me), especially when compared to far superior versions of kampung chicken I’ve enjoyed elsewhere.

The condiments did a great deal to make the chicken a decent eat for me

The saving grace arrived in the accompanying vegetable container. The Ipoh Bean Sprouts were the undisputed winners of the entire meal—fat, stubby, remarkably fresh, and packed with an intense, clean water-crunch that held up beautifully during the delivery ride. Tossed in a standard savory soy dressing, they outshone the chicken effortlessly. While the oil rice provided a competent, fragrant base, it was the humble bean sprouts that salvaged the evening’s order.

Total: RM49.90 (After RM12.00 Off Hot Deals, RM3.00 Off Delivery, and RM2.50 GrabVIP benefits)
Average per pax: RM24.95 (2 pax)
MVX Score: 6.8/10
M – Meal Value
The baseline prices is somewhat of the norm for neighborhood chicken rice, but the platform’s stacked promotional discounts and VIP benefits brought the net total down to a very respectable under-RM50 mark for two people.
Score: 7.0/10
V – Vroomness of Delivery
The food was delivered in good time, though it was the crisp resilience of the sprouts rather than any thermal management that kept the quality afloat.
Score: 7.0/10
X – X-Factor
The X-factor goes entirely to their bean sprouts. Achieving that specific short, plump profile and retaining such a refreshing crunch outside of an institutional dining hall elevates an otherwise tough meal into something passable.
Score: 6.5/10
