Cantonese
Lunch at Mini Tanker Bloomsvale turned out to be a mixed affair, with one dish clearly standing taller than the others. The sang har meen was decent enough overall, but it was the noodles rather than the prawns that left the better impression. The homemade layered bean curd, on the other hand, was excellent and easily the standout of the meal.
The sang har meen had a good foundation because the noodles themselves were the strongest part of the dish. They carried that satisfying spring and bite you want from a plate like this, and they held up nicely under the sauce without turning soft too quickly. That matters because with sang har meen, the noodles have to do a lot of the work in carrying the dish.

The disappointment was the sang har. It lacked the sweetness I would normally expect, especially from a dish that is meant to lean on the natural richness and sweetness of the prawn. The texture was alright, but the flavour did not quite land with the same conviction as the noodles did. That made the plate feel slightly uneven.
The fried chicken with chinese wine was so so. It was serviceable enough on the table, but it did not bring enough excitement to become memorable. In a meal where the sang har meen already felt only partly convincing, the chicken did not do much to lift things further.

The homemade layered bean curd was the real winner here. It had a lovely structure, rich eggy softness, and enough savoury depth to make it very satisfying. This was the dish that felt most complete and most worth returning for. Sometimes one good plate is enough to redeem a meal, and this was that plate.

Overall, Mini Tanker gave us a lunch where the highs and lows were quite clear. The sang har meen was decent because of the noodles, the sang har itself did not quite deliver, the chicken was average, but the tofu was excellent.

M – Meal Value
At just under RM158 for three people, the spend was not unreasonable for a restaurant meal with fresh water prawn involved. Still, the sang har did not deliver the sweetness expected, which affected the sense of value. The tofu helped save the score by being genuinely excellent.
Score: 7.0/10
V – Venue & Vibes
The setting felt like a straightforward mall restaurant suited to casual family-style meals. It is more about convenience and variety of dishes than any strong atmosphere.
Score: 7.0/10
X – X-Factor
The X-factor was the homemade layered bean curd. It was easily the most satisfying dish of the meal and the one that stood out clearly above the rest.
Score: 8.2/10
