Clam Chowder
It was a rainy night in George Town, Penang, and the clam chowder soup at The Loft Love Lane was just what Jen and I needed to warm us up.
The Clam Chowder Soup (RM27) has to be one of the better versions I’ve had. In fact, the last time I remember a clam chowder leaving such an impression on me was when I first tried it in San Francisco many years ago.

Served in a bread bowl, it was a wonderful reconnection with the chowder that Jen and I had fallen in love with all those years ago.
We also ordered a Margherita Pizza (RM30). This was a thin-crust Roman-style pizza, but I felt the dough could have tasted better. Unfortunately, this one was a miss for me.

The pizza may not have impressed, but I would certainly return for the clam chowder.
Clam Chowder Soup – RM27.00
Margherita Pizza – RM30.00
Heineken Draught – RM21.00
Subtotal: RM78.00
Service Charge (10%): RM7.80
SST (6%): RM3.42
SST (8% Alcohol Beverage): RM1.68
Total: RM90.90
Average per pax: RM45.45 (2 diners)
MVX Score: 8.3/10
M – Meal Value
At RM27, the clam chowder delivered a memorable experience and was worth the price. The RM30 Margherita pizza was less satisfying, making the overall meal somewhat uneven.
Score: 8.5/10
V – Vibe & Venue
Venue assessment pending. The rainy evening provided the context for the meal, but further information about the restaurant’s interior, comfort and facilities is needed for a fair score.
Score: 8.0/10
X – X-Factor
The clam chowder was the standout. Its ability to bring back fond memories of discovering the dish in San Francisco years ago made this meal particularly memorable. The wait staff were also very friendly.
Score: 8.5/10
