Chicken Rice, Roast Pork, Non-Halal
1977 New Ipoh Chicken Rice is a popular place for chicken rice in Petaling Jaya. The founders were originally from Ipoh and they started this shop in 1977, hence the name. Over the years, their business has flourished and they are not at 3 locations around the Klang Valley.
We were in the Jalan Gasing area and was wondering what to have. We wanted something very local and chicken rice is a good local dish to have. That’s how we ended up here.
They use kampung chicken here at 1977 New Ipoh Chicken Rice. We had a quarter chicken, a plate of bean sprouts and a roast pork. Together with drinks, our meal came up to RM81.30 which is not cheap for a chicken rice lunch.
But was the meal good? It depends what you like. The chicken was tough, a bit on the cold side and chewy, flavourful though it was. The signature roast pork was alright. The bean sprouts, I enjoyed. It was crispy and crunchy and well seasoned. But the dish that I enjoyed the most was the soup that came with our meal. It was a wonderfully delightful soup sweetened with radish in it.
