Cantonese
Finding a good Chinese restaurant that serves flavourful food without pork can sometimes be a challenge, which made this dinner at Bakul DimSum Num Empire a pleasant surprise.
Having only opened its doors in early 2026, Bakul DimSum NU Empire is still relatively new, but it already feels like a restaurant that knows what it’s trying to achieve. The restaurant has a bright, contemporary dining space and, for larger groups, private rooms that make family dinners or business gatherings much more comfortable. Our party of six was seated in one of these private sections, allowing us to enjoy the meal without the usual restaurant bustle.
The menu goes beyond dim sum, offering a wide selection of Cantonese-style favourites.
One of the highlights was the Kam Heong Fried Rice (RM26). Fragrant long-grain rice was wok-fried with prawns, squid and egg, carrying just enough of the aromatic Kam Heong spices without becoming overpowering. It had excellent wok hei and was substantial enough to be enjoyed on its own.

The Stir Fried Kai Lan (RM25) was another standout. The vegetables retained a satisfying crunch while the garlic sauce was light enough to complement rather than mask the natural sweetness of the greens.

Stir Fried Wantan Mee was alright.

As expected, dim sum forms the backbone of the restaurant. The Tradisi Har Gao (RM18) and Tradisi Siu Mai using chicken meat (RM16) were both well executed, with fresh fillings and delicate wrappers. The Garden Dumplings (RM12) provided a lighter alternative, while the Classic Phoenix Claws (RM13) were nicely braised and flavourful.

For something different, the Taro Puffs (RM14 each) offered crisp, flaky pastry wrapped around a savoury filling, making them one of the more enjoyable items on the table.

The Turnip Cake (RM12) was pan-fried until lightly crisp on the outside while remaining soft within. The only thing that threw me off was the chicken floss on top of it.

What impressed me most wasn’t necessarily one single dish, but the consistency across the meal. Every dish was competently prepared, making it easy to understand why the restaurant has started attracting diners despite being such a recent addition to the Subang dining scene.
