Kheng Pin Cafe Lor Bak
Street Food
- Under RM20 per pax
Breakfast at Kheng Pin Cafe Penang was alright overall, but the standout was the lor bak platter, especially the fried tofu

Jen and I dropped into Snow Ice House in Pusat Bandar Puchong and tried three things. The Red Green Bean (RM6), Mini Mango Bingsu (RM8.31 during the promotion) and, rather unexpectedly, Salted Egg You Tiao (RM6 for three pieces).
The Red Green Bean was probably a pass for me. There’s nothing particularly wrong with the idea of combining the two beans in a traditional-style sweet soup, but this wasn’t something I’d be rushing back to order.
The Mini Mango Bingsu fared better. It’s a fairly straightforward shaved ice dessert topped generously with mango and finished with a little flourish on top. At the promotional price of RM8.31, it’s difficult to complain. It was alright and certainly good value at that price.
But then there was the Salted Egg You Tiao.
This was easily the most interesting thing we ordered. Rather than simply serving you tiao with a salted egg dip, each piece actually has the salted egg filling inside. You get the crisp, fried exterior of the you tiao followed by that richer savoury filling as you bite through it.
It is also only RM6 for three pieces.
I’d gone into Snow Ice House expecting the shaved ice and Chinese desserts to be the things worth talking about. Instead, it’s the salted egg-filled you tiao that I’d order again.
Red Green Bean — RM6.00
Mini Mango Bingsu — RM8.31 promotional price
Salted Egg You Tiao, 3 pieces — RM6.00
Subtotal — RM20.31
Service Charge — RM2.03
Rounding — RM0.01
Total — RM22.35
MVX Score: 7.3/10
M – Meal Value
Prices are very approachable. RM6 for three pieces of salted egg-filled you tiao is particularly good value, while the promotional RM8.31 Mini Mango Bingsu makes an inexpensive dessert.

V – Venue
Bright, simple and air-conditioned, making it an easy place to stop for dessert around Pusat Bandar Puchong.

X – X-Factor
The Salted Egg You Tiao. Filling the you tiao itself rather than simply serving it with a dip makes this the item that stood out from the visit.
