Seafood, Non-Halal
Be Man Restaurant is a seafood restaurant that has many years of experience and serves tens of thousands of customers each year. The restaurant is conveniently located, just a few minutes walk from My Khe beach. The restaurant serves fresh seafood dishes, prepared in the traditional Vietnamese way.

Now what’s interesting to me is that the Vietnamese way never resonated with me – and this visit confirmed it. Even with my favourite ingredients (seafood); maybe it’s the cooking style (less ‘refined’ vs Chinese and Thai), they came up short. Nothing to do with the freshness of the seafood – every fruit de mer, was top notch fresh. Perhaps my own fault – I should have asked for all dishes to be grilled with salt. Even the egg fried rice was ‘broken’ (geddit?) – and that was the last straw.
Overall a good experience – just imagine you’re eating seafood in a seaside town like Langkawi. That helps set your expectations. Even then, I can’t help but think Chinese and Thai cooking prevails. This was a 6-6.5/10 for us.
Chiefeaters Maya, William and Susan came along for a seafood escapade at Be Man Restaurant. Kudos to Chiefeater Maya for finding us this local seafood joint in Danang. I was hankering for river prawns, fresh from my sojourn a week ago.
We had
1. Mantis prawns.
Mantis prawns was ok- the closest to Chinese salt & pepper (6.5/10)

2. Lobsters (sashimi and porridge – done 2 ways)
Lobster sashimi was fresh – 6.5/10
(Dip was maggi & wasabi)

Porridge was fresh but lacked full umami flavours a 6/10
Sorry, no picture.
3. Clams
Clams was stir fried with basil and mint – as preferred in Vietnam (6.5/10).

4. Baby geoduck
Baby geoduck was cooked in an interesting butter pumpkin style (for uniqueness – 6.5/10)

5. Crabs
Crabs was stir fried in chilli sauce, similar to Sg chilli crabs. this was 6/10 being a crab lover myself so extra hard on the rating.

6. Giant Clams
We had the giant clam as well (looks like a giant cockle – Japanese call it akagai), which was cooked in herbs and spices – the only 7/10

7. River Prawns
Another dish I forgot to mention : the river prawns- simply grilled. This was a 6.5/10
Smaller than their Thai counterparts – the head butter was lacking.

I’m trying hard not to label this a tourist trap, but maybe if you ordered the ‘simple’ bbq dishes, you’d end up with a solid 6.5.
