Big Breakfast, Pork-Free
Continuing my exploration of the big breakfast scene in KL, my latest stop brought me to Breakfast Thieves APW. For those unfamiliar, APW, formerly known as the Art Printing Warehouse, has been reimagined as a creative and vibrant space. Interestingly, APW now stands for “A Place Where…” — an open invitation for interpretation, reflecting the endless possibilities the retail and F&B offers.

The Viking priced at RM43.90++ is a hearty platter which features a spread of:
• Eggs (prepared to your preference)
• Buttered toast
• Chicken bacon
• Sausages (taste was reminiscent of lamb which was nice)
• Braised beef brisket
• Mash potato
• Roasted tomato
• Sautéed mushrooms

The standout for me was the braised beef brisket. Tender, flavourful, and richly seasoned, it added a touch of luxury to the dish and was a refreshing deviation from the usual suspects found in big breakfasts. The absence of baked beans was another welcome relief, as I often don’t enjoy it with my breakfast.

As usual Jen and I shared the plate, and the portion was sufficient to satisfy both of us. Each component was well-executed, and the dish as a whole delivered on flavour. The mash was creamy, the mushrooms were earthy and well-seasoned, and the roasted tomato brought a tinge of sweetness to round out the plate.
The Viking isn’t the priciest big breakfast (that accolade belongs to Red Kettle) in KL, but it certainly holds its ground among the better ones. The inclusion of braised beef brisket and the omission of baked beans set it apart from many others.
