Sandwich
Stepping into The Butcher’s Table in SS2, one usually expects a masterclass in cured meats and porcine perfection. However, the Grilled Cheese with Jamón proved to be a rare case where more ingredients do not necessarily equal a better experience. It was a culinary tug-of-war on sourdough; the intense, salty profile of the jamón seemed to fight the rich, melted cheese for dominance rather than finding a common ground.
The primary issue lay in the lack of a complementary bridge between the two stars of the sandwich. Instead of the ham enhancing the creamy saltiness of the cheese, the flavours clashed, leaving the palate confused by the competing salt levels and textures. It is a dish that sounds indulgent on paper but feels disjointed in execution, lacking that edible harmony that makes a great grilled cheese rhapsodize.

However, the tomato soup was delightful.
Grilled Cheese with Jamón: RM39.90
Score: 6.8/10
M – Meal Value
While the quality of the individual components—the jamón and the sourdough—is undeniably high, the final assembly doesn’t quite justify the premium when the flavour profile is so unbalanced.
Score: 6.5/10
V – Venue & Vibes
The SS2 outlet maintains that classic, rustic deli charm. It’s an unpretentious, bustling space that feels honest and grounded, perfect for those who take their meat seriously.
Score: 8.5/10
X – X-Factor
The X-factor here is the tomato soup accompaniment. Thick, rich, and well-seasoned, it provided the only real balance on the plate, acting as the necessary acidic foil to the heavy, clashing fats of the sandwich.
Score: 7.5/10
