Chance discoveries always carry a bit of extra charm, and that was exactly the case with Day Dreamers Cafe in Plaza Damas. Tucked into Sri Hartamas with a cosy, slightly hidden feel, it came across as the sort of place you could easily miss if you were not looking for it, but once inside, it made for a rather pleasant stop.

The space itself helped. There was a warm, comfortable look to the café, with a softer, more intimate atmosphere that suited an afternoon coffee break. It did not feel hurried or overly commercial. Instead, it had the sort of setting that invites you to slow down a little and stay longer than planned.

The range of baklava available.

What I had here was fairly simple: a flat white, an Earl Grey tea and an assorted baklava plate. The baklava turned out to be the strongest part of the visit. It was quite good, with enough sweetness and nuttiness to feel indulgent without becoming cloying too quickly. The mix of textures helped too, especially where the layers stayed flaky and the nut topping added a bit more bite.

The flat white was a good companion to it. A pastry stop like this always works better when the coffee is up to standard, and thankfully it was. The Earl Grey rounded things out nicely, making this less about a heavy café meal and more about a comfortable little tea-and-coffee session with dessert taking centre stage.

This is not the sort of place I would describe as loud or dramatic. Its appeal is really in being a cosy hideaway with a pleasant mood and a nice selection for a casual stop. And the warm service staff made the experience all the more welcoming For that sort of visit, Day Dreamers Cafe delivered quite well.
Flat White – RM10.90
Earl Grey Tea – RM7.00
Asstd Baklava 100g – RM18.00
Total: RM35.90
Average per pax: RM17.95 (2 pax)
MVX Score: 8.0/10
M – Meal Value
At under RM36 for drinks and baklava for two, this felt fair for a café in Sri Hartamas. It is not cheap-cheap, but the quality of the pastry and the comfortable setting made it feel reasonable.
Score: 7.9/10
V – Venue & Vibes
This was the main strength of the visit. The café had the feel of a cosy hideaway, helped by a warm interior and a setting that encouraged a slower pace.
Score: 8.3/10
X – X-Factor
The X-factor here was the baklava itself paired with the feeling of stumbling upon a pleasant little café in Plaza Damas. It is more about charm than spectacle.
Score: 7.9/10
