My colleagues took me to Gerai Kak Ely Bawal Goreng after our meeting in Simpang Ampat. Since it’s lunch time, we opted here instead of going back to the office. One word: Fresh! They have the homemade sambal on a salad leaf on the side, and with 1 small bowl of curry gravy and 1 small bowl of dark soy sauce.
The TNB transmission tower that you would have noticed as you are entering Penang Island via first bridge. This place is that close to the bridge.

My sotong goreng Nestum is just the right level, not too chewy. The curry leaves and the Nestum flakes added a dimension to it, like the Nestum prawns you would have during Chinese Wedding Dinner. The omelette is done right too. Soft in the centre and crunchy on the edge, just the way i like it.

The siakap goreng is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside, seasoned with a bit of salt and curry powder

Lastly the Jenahak kari (snapper) is the right level of spiciness and the meat is firm and not flakey.

There were a busy crowd during lunch time. I was told they open only for lunch. RM55 for 4 pax including drinks.
Don’t put too much attention to the environment though, just focus on the food. Overall very good lunch! Definitely coming back to try other dishes.
