Chiefeater KC Yan indulged in some Lebanese cuisine at Al Amar Pavilion KL

Kuih, Pork-Free
Guan’s Kopitiam has long been one of my go-to spots in Puchong, but it was only during my recent trip to Kota Kinabalu that I realised its roots lie in Sabah when I stepped into Guan's Kopitiam Gaya Street. What’s even more interesting is that all their outlets are owned and operated by family members, keeping the business close-knit while ensuring the same familiar taste across locations.

Stepping into their KK outlet, the menu was largely the same as what I was accustomed to in Puchong, offering classic Malaysian breakfast fare and comforting local dishes. However, a delightful surprise awaited: on weekends, they serve a selection of special kuih items, unique to this location. Naturally, we had to give them a try.

We opted for the yam cake and assorted kuih, and they did not disappoint. The yam cake was wonderfully textured, with just the right balance between firmness and softness. The flavour leaned savoury, complemented by the familiar aroma of dried shrimp and scallions. The kuih, on the other hand, was a pleasant surprise—not overly sweet, allowing the natural flavours to shine through. It was a refreshing change from overly sugary kuih found elsewhere.

If you’re in KK over the weekend, Guan's Kopitiam Gaya Street is worth stopping by for a taste of their cham and Malaysian treats!
