Huey&Wah Stout Marshmallows Was Unusual

Marshmallows

Description

Post by Chiefeater VK

Sometimes it isn’t the coffee that leaves the biggest impression. At Huey&Wah, it was the Huey&Wah Stout Marshmallows that stole the show.

I dropped by for a coffee break and was pleasantly surprised by how charming this café and retail shop is. The latte was well made with a smooth, balanced flavour and attractive latte art, making it an easy place to slow down for half an hour.

Curiosity got the better of me, so I picked up a box of their Stout Marshmallows together with a pack of vanilla-flavoured marshmallows.

The Huey&Wah Stout Marshmallows are unlike the supermarket versions most people are familiar with.

The moment I opened the packaging, the aroma of stout was immediately noticeable. It wasn’t overpowering or alcoholic tasting, but it carried enough of the stout’s roasted, malty character to make it genuinely interesting. The marshmallow itself was soft, airy and fluffy with a light chew that almost melted away.

The vanilla marshmallow was simpler and more familiar, making it a good contrast to the more adventurous stout version.

If you’re expecting a novelty gimmick, you’ll probably be surprised. These actually taste thoughtfully made.

More Than Just Marshmallows

Despite the name, Huey&Wah isn’t only a marshmallow shop.

Their menu also includes:

* Specialty coffee and espresso-based drinks
* Organic tea
* Fresh fruit drinks
* Signature marshmallow beverages
* Toasts and S’mores
* Cheesecakes
* Scones
* Mini loaf cakes
* Homemade yoghurt
* Salads
* Spaghetti
* Grilled cheese sandwiches
* Rice and stew dishes

It feels equally suited for a coffee stop, dessert break or even a light lunch.

MVX Summary

MVX Score: 8.3/10

M – Meal Value
The coffee was good and the handmade marshmallows feel like something beyond the usual café sweet. At RM18.50 for 12 stout marshmallows, the value comes partly from how distinctive the product is rather than quantity alone.
Score: 8.5/10

V – Venue
Huey&Wah works nicely as both a café and retail space. It is casual, comfortable and gives you plenty to browse while having a coffee, with a much broader food menu than its marshmallow speciality might suggest.
Score: 8.0/10

X – X-Factor
This is where Huey&Wah scores strongly. Handmade stout marshmallows aren’t something I encounter very often, and the aroma on opening the packet makes the flavour immediately distinctive. The range of unusual marshmallow flavours gives the café an identity of its own.
Score: 8.5/10
