Kai See Hor Fun
Finally, after years of hearing about this Ipoh Ipoh Cafe SS2 place, I got to sample it. There was already a queue forming at 11.30am, but luckily it took just 15 minutes to get me seated. There’s a lot of good KSHF in Klang Valley, from Wong Zhi to the ones in Batai to MJ Wang in PJ. I will benchmark this to MJ Wang since I go there most often. The broth is creamier and silkier here at Ipoh2, and the noodles slightly smoother — heard the Chef sources his ingredients from his hometown (Ipoh).
The MJ Wang version is more jagged and bold, using wine parlance; this is rounder, smoother and overall, more luxurious.
The side dishes at Ipoh Ipoh Cafe SS2 complete the experience (of Ipoh, their namesake) of course — the fat taugeh, the side orders of chicken etc, all reminiscent. Their white coffee is good too. I can imagine hankering for MJW’s version of KSHF some days, and Ipoh2’s version for others. I’d give this KSHF a slightly higher score than MJ’s just for the authenticity of the experience — the ambience, air conditioning and overall Ipoh vibes certainly help.
