Chiefeater William Thevarajan had a breakfast fix of Yong Tau Foo at Yap Kopitiam in Batu Caves
Desserts, Pork-Free
One of my favourite refreshment stops in town: "ang tau s'ng" with durian ice-cream from Kek Seng (Est. 1906) on Penang Road. Kek Seng was founded 118 years ago by Hainanese coffeeshop owner, Quah Beh 𝗞𝗲𝗸, and his best friend, "ang tau s'ng" (shaved ice dessert)-maker, Tung Seng Chong. The name of the new coffeeshop then was an amalgamation of their nicknames - Ah Kek and Ah Seng.
This place has a charming, frozen in a time-warp circa 1960s, feel!
Today, Kek Seng is owned by Tung Keow Keat, the grandson of Tung Seng Chong, and ably managed by his wife, Madam Cheow Sow Lei. Madam Cheow Sow Lei, is the granddaughter-in-law of co-founder, Tung Seng Chong.
