Kim Lian Kee is the creator of the KL Hokkien Char, or KL people just call Hokkien Mee.
Penang lang, please not it’s different from PG Hokkien Char or Penang Hokkien Mee.
Their story.
Kim Lian Kee was founded in 1927. Mr Ong Kim Lian from Fujian, China came to Malaya and opened first stall at Dang Wangi and second stall at Petaling Street before world war 2. He started off by selling homemade bamboo cane-pressed yellow ‘mee’ with soup. After numerous request from customer, Mr Ong tried to fried noodle with flounder fish powder, pork lard, dark soya sauce and served with sambal belacan. Since he was from Fujian (Hokkien), he named his noodle (mee) as Hokkien Mee. This is the origin story of ‘Hokkien Mee’ and Mr Ong Kim Lian is the founder. After nearly a hundred years, Kim Lian Kee hokkien mee stall stall remains at Petaling Street in Kuala Lumpur.
