Chicken Chop, Coffee, Pork-Free
Finding good coffee on the beach on the East Coast wasn’t easy. Let me rephrase that – finding good cheap coffee by the beach is no mean feat, and I managed to find a place while on a long ride to Cherating passing through Kuantan town. Kopi Mesin Beserah, by virtue of its name, uses an espresso machine for its coffee instead of the usual grounds-in-a-sock method for local coffee.
The RM5.80 price for hot coffee varieties at Kopi Mesin Beserah is shockingly cheap by Klang Valley standards. If the weather is just nice, or you don’t mind getting sunburned, there’s a large open courtyard with a lovely sea view to go along with your Insta-ready coffee.
I had cakes on a previous visit to Kopi Mesin Beserah and found them good. The grilled chicken (RM12) was a pleasant surprise, being slightly spicy and nicely cooked through while still being tender, although the mash potatoes were only lukewarm. The long black was strong to the point of being slightly bitter; the flat white had a more rounded flavor profile.
Plenty of parking outside, enough for the largest biker convoys.
