Putrajaya is a food desert. There, I've said it, and I do mean it: there's not much in the way of interesting food options if you're in the southern end of the main government area with the long boulevard. There are more options in the northern end around Putra Square and in Cyberjaya.
So, what's a concerned hungry citizen to do? I leave the big bike parked in the shade and wander around the area near the RTD headquarters. Got to get those daily steps in while being sheltered from the blazing sun. I come across Kopi Surat Cinta Putrajaya, a little cafe tucked in a corner of the Galleria PJH building, and it's a surprisingly decent find.
The coconut milk latte is an intriguing mix of different coffee cultures. I opt for no sugar in mine so the creamy and nutty taste of the coconut milk shines through, forming a nice counterpoint to the strong and slightly bitter coffee roast.
The curry mee has chunks of chicken and fish cake immersed in a thick, spicy broth. The raw beansprouts add an interesting crunch but I found the cockles to be overcooked, since I prefer them to be on the rare side. On the other hand, raw red cockles might not be the safest thing on a hot tropical day, so better to err on the side of caution.
There are other non-chain eateries in and around Galleria PJH that I'll be checking out next time.
