Nanhua Village Penang Kopi
Chiefeater Tai Kwee Fatt had kopi at Nanhua Village in Penang

Chongqing
Homestyle Chongqing spot serving perfect wontons and duck shit oolong tea in a cozy, retro space at Luo Niang Niang. Everything tastes like it’s made by someone’s grandmother – the braised beef melts in your mouth and the spicy beancurd skins hit different. Come hungry and order family-style, finish with their ice jelly dessert.
Bukit Pasoh is another chic party spot – arguably more popular than Keong Saik next door (adjacent street).
There are a lot of chinoiserie chic bars and restaurants on this one street – from the iconic Majestic Hotel at the end; which has stood there for centuries; to the string of China based cocktail bars such as BBC. But today’s focus is proper authentic Chongqing food – and we stepped into Luo Niang Niang.

The twice cooked pork was ok at 6.5/10.

The cabbage was good at 7/10.

The wontons, what they’re supposedly most famous for was good at 7/10.

The stand out dish for me was the crabs.

Definitely worth a visit, if you’re after simple, flavourful food to be shared in small plates. We will be frequenting Bukit Pasoh a little bit more..
