Mr Eight Kitchen Breakfast
Malaysian, Pork-Free
- RM20 - RM50 per pax
Chiefeater KC Yan had a nice breakfast at Mr Eight Kitchen on Jalan Burma which has been around since 1963
Western, Pork-Free
Dinner at the Middle House Penang with 3 friends. mainly went there was because i wanted to use the RM10 voucher (again!). this restaurant the prices are a bit on the high side but it’s okay to indulge once in a while.
most of the food are western food. i see only the pratha with curry or the curry chicken as local. well since i don’t really like western food eg chicken chop, pork chop but i do like pasta, i went for the pasta – spaghetti cajun spicy shrimp. i love shrimp and i love spicy so i was hooked on this. (however it did not turned out to be spicy at all).
my friends ordered the signature grilled salmon, signature rosti and signature alio e olio (vegetarian). a friend ordered the mushroom soup while i ordered the ginger and pumpkin soup. for dessert we ordered the lady t classic tiramisu with almond for sharing among 4 of us. oh and i takeaway the lady t pistachio tiramisu beause my ‘bad eye’ was attracted to the lovely bag.
spaghetti cajun spicy shrimp (RM36)
nope. not spicy one bit too. surprised to see the prawns (well i’m more used to refer to it as prawns) were small prawns – 4 pcs. the cajun sauce was quite good, where i get to taste it more towards the end. overall quite okay.
signature rosti (RM25)
friend’s order but we each of us took one bite and i like it very much. should have ordered this insttead of the spaghetti. haha.
signature grilled salmon (RM48)
my friend said it was good. the salmon was quite a big piece where she shared to two of us.
top: ginger and pumpkin soup (RM20)
actually i love mushroom soup but seeing this ginger and pumpkin soup is something i haven’t try before, so went for it. it was delicious. love the ginger taste and can feel the soup was very ‘peppery’.
when my friend has a spoonful of it, they like it so much so they decided to order one too.
bottom: signature grilled salmon (RM21)
my friend said it was good. the salmon was quite a big piece where she shared to two of us.
lady t classic tiramisu with add on of almond (RM33+RM5)
all of us love this. the alcohol one was not available so this is non alcohol. very good anyway. it tasted better with the almond!
the little sign on the bottom was stuck to the tiramisu when it came to us. after its name, it says "love at first scoop"
lady t pistachio tiramisu (RM39)
my takeaway. comes in a very very nice coloured insulated bag. they even put in a block of wrapped ice inside the bag. the tiramisu packing is nice too as you can see – with a ribbon.
i only try half of it yestarday. very good. i feel about the same as the classic tiramisu. however here, the er... was it. the coca powder or what.... it tasted like grated coconut with brown sugar.
the damage! near RM300 for 4 of us. With 10% service tax too. the damage for my takeaway tiramisu is not in this receipt. well if not for the voucher, it would have been an extra RM10.00
the middle house has 6 sections for dining, drinking and private events. reception lounge and dining room which are on groud floor. then there are the private room, bar and bar terrace which are upstairs first floor. oh seems that there is a garden area for dining too but i did not see it… maybe night time, it was not opened.
the place is full of arts and antiques. almost every corner you go (looking up and down too!), you’ll run into the arts and antiques. the owner, andrew, was very friendly and came to chat with us a few times. approachable, affable type who also goes round to other tables to chit chat a bit.
