Kuey Teow Th'ng, Street Food, Non-Halal
We had breakfast at a very good 𝘬𝘰𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘦𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩’𝘯𝘨 spot at the mini roundabout on Terengganu Road. Hence the name Mini Roundabout Kuey Teow Thng. Founded in the 1970s by the Teochew Teoh family, it’s currently fronted by the very friendly Teoh Cheng Sin aka “Ah Boy”.

Cooking is still done by Ah Boy’s parents, the octogenarian Mr Teoh and his septuagenarian wife. The Teoh family’s 𝘬𝘰𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘦𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘩’𝘯𝘨 broth is made from slow-boiling large pig’s bones, no MSG used here.

It results in a very light, savoury broth which they used to steep their delicate 𝘬𝘰𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘦𝘰𝘸 (flat rice noodles), garnished with 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘦𝘦 (bouncy Teochew-style fish-balls, called 𝘩𝘰𝘰 𝘶𝘢𝘯 in Hokkien), minced pork (𝘣𝘢𝘬 𝘤𝘩𝘰), chopped scallions and golden-fried pork lard (𝘣𝘢𝘬 𝘦𝘶 𝘱𝘰𝘬).

There is also a “dry” version, where the 𝘬𝘰𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘦𝘰𝘸 is dressed in savoury dark soy sauce and pork lard, served with a very piquant chili paste. It was excellent!
