Dim Sum
I recently had lunch at Mini Tanker, which has turned out to be one of the best dim sum experiences I have had this year. This restaurant in Damansara Kim serves as the contemporary, “younger sibling” to the renowned Extra Super Tanker family, replacing the long-running EST in this neighborhood several years ago. Since my last visit, they have renovated this place and it looks more vibrant now.
While the menu is more focused than larger establishments, the dim sum that we ordered was executed well.
We started with several staples that did not disappoint. The Siew Mai was dainty yet packed with flavour.

Though I did notice quite a bit of empty space in the filling.

The Har Gao (Prawn Dumplings) remained moist with a delicate skin that stayed perfectly intact.

I also enjoyed the fried fish ball, which was notably springy and tasty.

The specialized items were the clear highlights of the afternoon. The Scallop and Truffle Dumpling was a lovely addition to the spread and the Prawn Cheong Fun achieved the ideal balance of translucence and flavor.

However, the Mui Choy Kau Yuk Bao (Pork Belly Bao) was the star for me; the preserved vegetables provided a wonderful texture that complemented the pork without being overpowering.

Premium Chinese Tea for 2 – RM10.00
Prawn Dumplings – RM12.80
Siew Mai – RM12.80
Garlic Fried Fish Ball – RM11.80
Signature Roast Duck – RM16.90
Prawn Rice Roll – RM9.80
Truffle Scallops & Prawn Dumpling – RM12.80
MT Pork Belly Bao with Mui Choy – RM10.90
Total Bill with Service Tax – RM103.65
Average of RM50 per pax
Score: 8.2/10
M – Meal Value
The quality-to-price ratio is exceptional. For just over RM100 for two people, you get premium ingredients like truffle and scallop prepared with the expertise of a high-end Cantonese kitchen.
Score: 8.5/10
V – Venue & Vibes
Adorned with local artistry, the space is vibrant and much more polished than a standard neighbourhood kopitiam. It offers a comfortable environment that fits the “contemporary confidence” of the brand.
Score: 8.0/10
X – X-Factor
The true standout is the Mui Choy Kau Yuk Bao. It’s not something that is easily found nowadays.
Score: 8.2/10
