We’re all used to cafés trying to get food onto the table as quickly as possible. NOTA Cafe takes a different approach.
The kitchen isn’t fast. In fact, you’ll probably wait longer than you might expect. But once the food arrives, nobody is hovering nearby hoping you’ll finish quickly so they can turn the table over for the next customer.
It’s a café that quietly encourages you to slow down.
I ordered the Rotisserie Chicken while my friends shared a few other dishes around the table. Watching the plates arrive, one thing became obvious — presentation clearly matters here.

The skin carried a lovely roasted colour while the meat underneath remained juicy and well seasoned throughout. It came with creamy mashed potatoes, grilled peppers, sautéed mushrooms, a sausage and a rich onion gravy.

The sauce that came in a small container leaned slightly towards the sweeter side, which may divide opinion, but it paired reasonably well with the savoury chicken without becoming overwhelming.
The mashed potatoes were smooth and comforting, while the roasted vegetables added colour and freshness to the plate. Overall, it was a satisfying meal that felt thoughtfully prepared rather than rushed out of the kitchen.

Looking around the café, it’s easy to understand why people choose to linger. The warm timber furniture, neutral colours and open dining space create a calm atmosphere that’s equally suited for lunch, coffee or an afternoon conversation.

Just don’t come here expecting a quick lunch before rushing back to work. Come when you actually have time to enjoy it.
Rotisserie – RM46.00
Flat White – RM13.00
MVX Score: 8.0/10
M – Meal Value
The food is well executed and portions are fair, although the prices place it firmly in the premium café category. The quality generally justifies the pricing, but the slower kitchen means this isn’t somewhere for a quick weekday meal.
Score: 7.6/10
V – Venue & Vibes
This is where NOTA really shines. The warm timber furnishings, spacious layout and calm atmosphere make it a place where you’re encouraged to slow down and enjoy your company. Better still, the staff don’t make you feel like they need the table back once you’ve finished eating. It’s the kind of café that’s built as much for lingering conversations as it is for the food.
Score: 8.5/10
X – X-Factor
NOTA’s philosophy extends beyond the kitchen. It asks diners to slow down—not just while waiting for the food, but throughout the entire experience. While the longer preparation time may not suit everyone, the unhurried atmosphere is becoming increasingly rare and gives the café its own identity.
Score: 7.8/10
