Chinese, Tong Bo Pork, Non-Halal
It’s been a long time since I last stepped into Restoran 8 Road, and the return did not disappoint. I ordered the Tong Bo Pork (RM48), and it was excellent. The meat had a firmer texture than the usual melt-in-your-mouth softness typically expected of this dish but I actually preferred it this way. There was something satisfying about the gentle resistance of each bite, with the fat rendered just enough to remain rich but not cloying.

The paku done kerabu-style (RM20 )was a real surprise. Served chilled, it was refreshingly bright, coated in a Thai-style dressing that brought together sweetness, tang, and a subtle heat. And sprinkled generously on top of the vegetables was a good amount of ikan bills.

Dinner, inclusive of tea, came to RM83 for two, and we couldn’t even finish it all. Portions were more than hearty, so we had it packed to go. A solid meal, with a few thoughtful touches that made it feel just that bit more memorable.
Don’t let the unassuming look of this place deter you, the food is good. We arrived at 7 pm and this was how it looked. By 7:30 pm, the tables were filling up.
