Hokkien Mee, Street Food, Non-Halal
Decided to try delivery from Ulu Yam Loh Mee in USJ 1, opting for a plate of Hokkien Mee while Jen went with their signature Loh Mee.
The Hokkien Mee arrived from their outlet in USJ1 hot. That was a good sign. It had the right texture — thick, slightly chewy noodles with some bite — but the seasoning fell disappointingly short. It was as if the salt had been forgotten, leaving the dish tasting rather flat. The dark, glossy gravy lacked the savoury depth that makes a great plate of Hokkien Mee so satisfying.

David was satisfied with his Cantonese fried yin yong noodles.

Jen’s Loh Mee, on the other hand, fared better. The thick, starchy broth had the right balance of flavour, with a savoury tang that complemented the noodles well. It wasn’t outstanding, but it was competent and comforting enough and she liked it.
