Ru Ji Kitchen Fish Ball Mee
Fish Ball Noodles, Street Food
The fish balls at Ru Ji Kitchen may be inconsistently shaped but Chiefeater Luke Soon found that there is bouncy delight in this asymmetry

Hakka Mee, Street Food, Non-Halal
My recent visit to Restoran May Shaw left me with mixed feelings, especially after craving authentic Hakka Mee and Yong Tau Foo following a disappointing experience elsewhere. This eatery had caught my attention after being covered by Chiefeater GIJoe, but my personal experience differed from his review.

Upon arrival, I was impressed by the beautifully presented bowl of noodles, but it quickly became apparent that this rendition couldn’t be considered a traditional Hakka Mee. Unusual additions like nuts and “Choy Poh” (preserved radish) seemed out of place for the Hakka style. The tung choy made the noodles sweet. The Yong Tau Foo, too, didn’t quite align with my expectations of Hakka cuisine, lacking the robust flavours I associate with Hakka cuisine.

While the flavours didn’t meet my expectations for Hakka cuisine, it’s worth noting that Restoran May Shaw’s offerings might appeal to those who prefer milder tastes. Indeed, the bustling crowds and full tables attest to its popularity among diners seeking a different flavour profile.
Ultimately, if you’re in the mood for Hakka dishes with bold, authentic flavours, you may want to explore other options.
