Mee Jawa Goreng, Street Food, Pork-Free
Some things just don’t lose their charm and the Mee Jawa Goreng at Restoran Siong Pin is one of them. I had not been back for a while, but this visit confirmed it’s still as good as I remembered.

Alex is still at the wok, dishing out plates with that familiar, well-balanced flavour. A harmony of sweet, savoury, and spicy flavours that makes this Mee Jawa Goreng so addictive. Of course, prices have gone up a little (RM8 per plate now), but honestly, what hasn’t these days? Alex has been frying this dish for about 40 years.

There’s a pleasing consistency here, too — friends who frequent the place say even Alex’s assistant now fries up the dish to the same satisfying standard. A generous squeeze of lime, crisp shredded lettuce, a hit of sauce, and that signature wok aroma rounds off every bite.
This is a dish that I grew up on while living in this area and tt’s comforting to know that some old favourites can still deliver, time and again.
