Cheng Heng Kway Chap and Braised Duck Rice is Good

Ramen, Street Food, Non-Halal
Breakfast after pickleball brought me to Uncle Soon Fried Rice, though this time, I wasn’t there for the fried rice. I had read that their ramen was surprisingly good, and when someone like Chiefeater David Chong echoes the same sentiment, you know it’s worth a try.

What arrived was a bowl of ramen that exceeded expectations, especially coming from a place more well-known for its wok-fried staples. The noodles were perfectly al dente—firm with just the right amount of chew—and the broth was rich, almost creamy, with a savoury depth that hinted at long hours of simmering. No shortcuts here. It didn’t try to be a traditional Japanese bowl, but what it offered was hearty and satisfying in its own right.

At RM14, it was one of those rare finds where quality and price meet in a bowl. For something that could easily pass off in a specialty ramen shop, it felt like excellent value. A great way to refuel after a sweaty game—and a reminder that sometimes the best discoveries aren’t even what the place is famous for.

I liked the white coffee here too.
