Blanco Court, located along Ophir Road, used to be a popular food hub before the building was torn down. After its demolition, several stalls relocated to different parts of the city, adopting the “Blanco Court” name to retain their customer base and brand recognition. This led to multiple fish soup stalls across Singapore bearing the “Blanco Court” name, each offering their own rendition of the dish. Teng Ji Fish Soup at Tiong Bahru Food Centre also carries the ‘Blanco Court’ name on its signage.
For a relatively ‘unknown’ stall, it has an impressive 4.9-star rating on Google.
I usually order the Mixed Fish Soup ($7.50) which is a safe choice to get the best of both worlds.
And between the two, I always prefer the original fish slices – kinda like how I think steamed chicken 🍗 is the original vs roasted chicken rice 🍚.
It’s not the rich, creamy kind some places serve, but more of a simple, clear soup that feels homely.
The plus point: There’s also fried egg floss floating around, soaking up the broth and adding extra texture (and also some saltiness).
Again, my theory goes – Teochew food on this island is harder to disappoint. Fish soup is one of my favourites.
Overall a very respectable 6.5/10 for Teng Ji.
