Yuan Yuan Tea Style Kuchai Lama Stylish Dim Sum

Dim Sum

Description

Post by Chiefeater VK

Dim sum at Yuan Yuan Tea Style in Kuchai Lama was generally good, with enough interesting dishes on the table to make this more than just another round of the usual dim sum favourites.

The one that immediately gets your attention is the Cheesy Lychee Shrimp Ball. It really does look like a row of lychees, right down to the red textured exterior and mint leaves sticking out of the top. It’s certainly an interesting presentation, although thankfully there is more to it than the looks. The prawn filling worked well with the crisp exterior and cheesy centre.

We also had the Crystal Dumplings, Siu Long Bao, Black Truffle Siu Mai, Red Shrimp Cheong Fun, Golden Har Gao, Lotus Leaf Rice and Fried Dumplings.

The Har Gao tasted good, although I found the skin a little dry. That’s one of those things that matters with Har Gao because the skin is very much part of the experience.

The Siu Long Bao was enjoyable, with broth inside the dumpling as it should be, while the Lotus Leaf Rice was another solid dish with plenty of flavour absorbed into the glutinous rice.

I also liked the Teng Zai Zuk. Porridge can easily become the quiet dish on a table full of more elaborate dim sum, but this was good and something I’d happily order again.

Overall, Yuan Yuan Tea Style does dim sum well. There are the familiar dishes if that’s what you’re after, but they also have enough more unusual creations to keep the meal interesting.

MVX Summary
