Tokyo Ramen Puchong which joins the list of F&B outlets at Rio Puchong bills itself as a modern Japanese restaurant which offers varieties of Japanese cuisine from starters to desserts. Rio has turned out to be a haven for many diners (not only because Jaya Grocer is here) with their choices but more so because there is adequate parking here.
What is modern Japanese cuisine? Tokyo Ramen Puchong has ramen, gyoza, rolls, yakitori. I am not clear about the modern part in the menu offering but whether it's modern or otherwise, the important question is whether it is good or not.
My son ordered a spicy ramen with chashu (RM29+). Their menu states the soup (broth) is made using homemade spicy oil with hakata ramen served with a choice of Tokyo Ramen's definition of yakibuta (fatty meat) or chashu (lean meat), hanjuku egg, black fungus and spring onion.
Yakibuta and Chashu are actually the same thing in Japanese.
"Chashu is the Chinese reading of Kanji script 焼豚 but it can also be read as Yakibuta in Japanese. Despite the kanji reading of “yaki”, which means grilled or fried, the pork meat you usually find in ramen is more like a braised pork in a soy sauce base"

He said the ramen was done well with the noodle retaining a firm bite. However, he was underwhelmed with the broth in the ramen. While it lived up to the spicy in its name, it lacked the subtle multi layered tastes of a good ramen broth.

We shared the following items. A plate of Beetroot Salmon Sushi Roll (RM32+), a plate of Gyoza (RM10+) made of pork and some Yakitori skewers of Chicken Thigh (RM10+), Chicken Wing (RM9+), Chicken Kidney (RM6+) which really was Chicken Gizzard and an Iberico Pork Neck (RM22+).
Beetroot Salmon is really Salmon cured with Beetroot to give it a slightly sweet taste to blend with the saltiness. It's certainly an interesting taste and the magenta colour certainly adds to its attractiveness. My wife enjoyed this dish.
The Gyoza were relatively small but did not lack flavour.

The Yakitori was the delight of the day for me. The chicken skewers were well grilled while maintaining the succulence of the meat. All of them were well seasoned and paired well with the Sake based Mojito (RM19+) that I had.
If you live in Puchong you will know there is a dearth of good ramen places. Tokyo Ramen Puchong probably qualifies as the best ramen in Puchong (at the time of tasting and writing in Dec 2022).
If there is a reason for me to come back to Tokyo Ramen Puchong, it would be for the Yakitori.
