Chiefeater Tai Kwee Fatt caught up with several friends over a meal at Sin Yong Loke Coffee Shop in Taman Peringgit Jaya

Babi Guling, Lechon, Noodles, Non-Halal
Our friend Alice suggested that we should give the Crispy Pork Noodles Soup in KL’s Chinatown a try. Arriving just before they opened their doors, we were the first customers there. And I am glad we were early as the outlet was packed by the time we finished eating. The restaurant’s air-conditioned environment was a welcome relief, especially given that the food is cooked on-site. Despite the active kitchen, the space remained comfortably cool, without being overwhelmed by the cooking aromas.

We began with the babi guling (RM18), which, while enjoyable, had some room for improvement. The meat was slightly dry, but the flavourful soup provided a nice complement that enhanced the overall dish.

The Thai Crispy Pork Thai Soup Noodle (RM13) was the highlight of the meal. The broth was well-prepared, delivering a satisfying depth of flavor. The crispy pork, which also featured in this dish, was a standout component and offered a delightful contrast in texture to the noodles and broth. The Thai flavours were evident in the dish.

In addition to the noodle dish, we also ordered lechon (RM18). Notably, the crispy pork used in the lechon was essentially the same as the one in the noodle dish, with the main difference being the cut. The lechon featured a fattier cut, while the one in the soup was leaner, offering a range of options for diners with varying preferences.

It’s hard to live up to expectations once a place has been hyped up. People come with unrealistic expectations. Crispy Pork Noodles Soup tried. To me, it was decent food served at decent prices.
