In the ever-evolving culinary scene of Puchong, some eateries stand as timeless landmarks, preserving the essence of classic flavours. Kong Sai Bandar Puteri Puchong is one such place, a haven for those who appreciate the true taste of kampung chicken. Recently, we returned after nearly two years, curious to see if the kampung chicken still reigned supreme.
For the uninitiated, kampung chicken, also known as free-range or village chicken, offers a distinct savour and texture compared to its commercially raised counterparts. These chickens roam freely in a natural environment, resulting in meat that's flavourful, slightly leaner, and with a firmer texture. The skin often features a dimpled appearance, adding to its rustic charm.
Our visit to Kong Sai was centred around the quarter kampung chicken (RM18). The anticipation was palpable as we awaited the flavours and textures that make kampung chicken a beloved choice for many. Our first bite confirmed that Kong Sai had indeed maintained its reputation.
The kampung chicken was not just tasty; it was brimming with flavour. The firm, yet tender texture was exactly how we remembered it and precisely how we preferred it. The dimpled skin, while not everyone's cup of tea, is a treasure for those who appreciate it. We decided not to indulge in the chili sauce this time, and the chicken stood beautifully on its own.
To complement the star of our meal, we ordered bean sprouts (RM12) and a small bowl of pepper pig stomach soup (RM16). The bean sprouts were good but not particularly memorable. It was the pepper pig stomach soup that truly caught our attention. The hearty pot of soup brimmed with ample servings of stomach and pork belly. It was a warm, satisfying bowl, perfect for those who appreciate bold flavours.
I wrapped up the meal Korean style by putting the rice into the soup. Fitting way to end the meal. Our meal for 2 pax came up to RM57.24 inclusive of drinks and taxes. Not bad for splendid serving of kampung chicken.
