Chinese, Claypot, Non Halal
A cold wet evening calls for a hot steamy food and that’s what we chanced upon at IOI Rio. Tan Hotpot Rio Puchong offers chicken, lamb, beef or pork served in a claypot. The outlet manager suggested that we try their signature Chicken Hotpot (RM42.90+) which is a serving for 2. They have 3 sizes. Single for 1 person. Small for 2 persons. Medium for 3 or 4 persons.

Other than sizes, you can specify the level of spiciness that you can handle. It starts from A which is Not Spicy to E which is written as Crazily Spicy. We decided that we would start with B, a Little Spicy.
The Chicken Claypot arrived about 15 minutes later which they set over a small burner. The burner had a fire to keep it constantly hot. Tan Hotpot Rio Puchong also provided a kettle of soup. You add to into the claypot as the water in the sauce evaporates.
The chicken and the vegetables inside the pot were well seasoned and had already been pre-cooked. The chicken was wonderfully tender and the taste went to the bone. The vegetables had already been cooked but yet retained a nice crunch without being hard.
The dish was nicely complemented with a bottle of Tsingtao Beer. The light beer going well with the savoury chicken. Once we had finished the chicken, we ordered 100g of Pork Belly slices (RM18.90+). While the pork meat was good, it did not match the chicken as the flavours of the soup did not have a chance to seep into the pork.

Our meal for 2 pax came up to RM94.05. I would definitely be coming back to Tan Hotpot Rio Puchong for a try of the other items they have on offer.
The + is for a 10% service charge.
