Chinese, Hakka, Non-Halal
After the good experience with the Chee Cheong Fun in Seri Kembangan, I was back to explore other discoveries here. This time our food journey led us to Restoran Chen Fatt, a traditional Hakka establishment with roots dating back to 1971. Excited to delve into the heritage of Hakka cuisine, we anticipated bold flavours and authentic tastes.
Opting for the lady boss's recommendations – pineapple pork ribs, paper-wrapped chicken, and stir-fried potato leaves with fermented bean curd – our table was soon adorned with an enticing spread. Visually appealing, the dishes carried the promise of a traditional feast. However, the tasting notes unfolded a different story.
Pineapple Pork Ribs

Paper Wrapped Chicken

To our surprise, the flavours in each dish were unexpectedly muted. Contrary to the robust and bold nature typically associated with Hakka cuisine, the symphony of tastes felt restrained. The pineapple pork ribs lacked the anticipated tang, the paper-wrapped chicken was subdued, and even the stir-fried potato leaves failed to deliver the usual vibrancy.
Stir Fried Potato Leaves

Despite the muted flavours, it's essential to acknowledge Restoran Chen Fatt's longstanding legacy. With almost five decades of serving Hakka cuisine, there's a charm in experiencing time-tested recipes. The quest for authenticity remains, and perhaps, individual preferences play a role in the interpretation of traditional flavours.
What wasn't lacking was their quality of service. They were attentive and courteous and were quick to come to service.
