Max Brenner QV Waffles
Desserts, Pork-Free
Chiefeater Eddie Low was in the Melbourne CBD and decided that an afternoon in the city is not complete without waffles at Max Brenner QV
Thai, Pork-Free
It’s good to see that the crowds are back in the shopping malls which is a real boon to retail outlets especially eateries. We had planned to have dim sum at Grand Imperial at KLCC but there was a long line. So we thought maybe let’s go to Calia, but we were wait listed there too. In the end, we ended up at Celadon Thai instead. And we are so glad for that.
We ordered a Heart of Celadon platter (RM75), a Tomyam Gai or chicken tomyam (RM29), a Stir Fried Eggplant with minced chicken meat (RM28) and an Oyster Omelette (RM34). A plate of rice is RM8 per serving. It is Thai fragrant rice but it is an expensive plate of rice.
All very pricey but we had a delicious meal at Celadon Thai. The first item to arrive was the eggplant which was well seasoned with the eggplant having a the perfect texture of having just enough bite without being mushy.
The next to arrive was the Tomyam. For RM29, we expected a bigger bowl. However, what it lacked in size was made up in flavour. Their tomyam packed probably more flavour per spoon than some tomyam that you might have per small bowl. It’s not a soup that is so imbued with spice that it will burn your tongue and leave a heaty sensation in your stomach later. But its the flavours that they have extracted out of the ingredients that you taste with each sip. Savour each sip. While you can mix it into the rice, I would really recommend just enjoying each sip of tomyam by itself.
Then came the platter. There were several items in it and while not all were winners, overall it was a good dish to order. We could taste the fish in fried Thai fish cake and without the flavours being too robust. This was an understated fish cake but in a good way. The other items were the prawn based prawn cake which was springy and a taste of fresh sweetness.
Finally, the Omelette arrived. It certainly looked pretty and is very suitable for the gram. Nicely done with good flavours, but I feel that they were stingy with the portion of oysters in it. I probably would not order this dish if I were to go there again.
The flavours are subtle and they let the ingredients come to the fore. If you like your Thai food to have robust flavours, this is not the place for you.
Nevertheless, we enjoyed our lunch there at Celadon Thai. At RM186 for 4 pax, I felt it was money well spent. Another noteworthy comment is that their lighting is superb for photography, especially if your phone camera does well with low light photography.
Celadon Thai has a 10% service charge and 6% SST, the prices stated in the menu are actually the nett pricing which is really good.
